Alpha Sigma
Chartered March 1967 with 10 members, Alpha Sigma currently has 6 members in 5 suburban cities. We’re a small chapter with high energy and open arms for growth!
Alpha Sigma strives to make an impact globally through our philanthropic fundraising and volunteer efforts, which include: Locally: 2nd Harvest Food Shelf, Union Gospel Mission, Bundles of Love, Alexandra House, various Nursing Homes Regionally: Marc Scholarships, Minneapolis Retarded Citizens, Union Gospel Mission Statewide: MN Special Olympics, MN ESA Scholarships, Lion Lakes Nationally: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Easter Seals, ESA Foundation Scholarships, Schriners Globally: Heifer Project, Free Wheelchair Mission Most of our members have never been crafty with needle and thread…no wood making skills, and not too handy with the glue gun. Craft sales were never our cup of tea. Instead we’ve sold chances on Gerber dolls, cases of booze, garden center gift cards, full convention registrations, hot drink mixes, home made candy, wood decorative items, casino nights, and Halloween candy. We even sold light bulbs door-to-door in ancient times. We’ve hosted over twenty fundraising auctions for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, which netted anywhere from $480 to $5100. All chapter members are active in the MN State Council and three of our current members are Past State Presidents. We’re fun-loving and enjoy skits or parodies to songs, even helping other chapters with theirs. We have hosted three state conventions. Personal Statements: Alpha Sigma is traditional in some sense through our ceremonies and approach, yet progressive and versatile in thought. Alpha Sigma offers members opportunities for growth, and we enjoy working towards common goals. The feeling achieved through giving far outweighs the effort. Friendships - new and old - knitting it all together with laughter and fun times. With room to express ourselves, we get more out of it than we put into it! Sharing ESA and giving to people in the whole community through our chapter endeavors. It feels good to do it. We continue to improve our mental health through chapter educational programs that are fun and enlightening. |
